Tin ceilings became popular during the early 1900s as a decorative, low-cost substitute to expensive, artistic plaster. The Industrial Revolution and its automation allowed the intricate stucco effects to be faithfully reproduced in metal: providing the same beauty in a maintenance-free format.  Additionally, metal provided fire-safeness and economical installation making it a superior option.
These same qualities exist today along with several new advantages. Aluminum is now the preferred metal because of its superior performance (won’t rust, lightweight, easily cut, safe edges).
